Dr. Adrianna Sagrera DVM of the Natural Pet Wellness Center in Metairie LA observes from her anecdotal experience in her clinic the following results from feeding a properly balanced raw diet:
Raw diets can be fed to dogs and cats from the age of 8 weeks until ripe old age. Bacteria isn’t a problem when meats are kept frozen and not allowed to sit out for extended periods of time.
Feeding raw often cures many behavioral problems. Frequently the problems are due to too much sugar or too many carbohydrates in the diets.
Skin allergies are usually cleared up. The fatty acids in the meat diets help the coat condition. Also, there are many, many food antigens in grain based diet due to the high quantity of ingredients. With meat diets, there’s only one type of protein and thus only one type of antigen. It’s therefore easier to avoid antigens that are causing the allergic reaction. Surprisingly, dogs and cats are often not allergic to meats in their raw form as opposed to meats that have been cooked.
Feeding raw helps maintain general health of an animal during chemotherapy treatment and animals with pancreatic or kidney failure. They stop throwing up, the energy levels go up, and it halts the health from taking a downward spiral.
Colitis and Inflammatory Bowel Disease is immediately cleared up when a raw diet is fed and Coccidia are cleared out of the system.
Urinary tract crystals are usually cleared up in cats from feeding raw meat.
75% of the time, diabetes is cured in cats when a raw diet is fed. It helps to stabilize the glucose in the system if it doesn’t cure the diabetes completely.
In general, feeding raw diets to dogs and cats results in brighter eyes, better joint health and function, tartar-free teeth, healthy gums, improved coat conditions, boosted immune systems, and improved digestion.
